The Malvern Hornets Golf Team had a great week of IVC Postseason Tournaments. Lauren Brown finished tied for 6th and Kami Rayborn finished tied for 11th on Tuesday shooting a 79 and 87! The team finished 6th overall yesterday shooting a 343 led by Junior Cam Good shooting a 79.

What to watch: It's the Inter-Valley Conference “crossover game” game of the decade: The dominant team from the IVC North (Malvern, 30-9 since 2021) against the big boy of the IVC South (Garaway, 42-1 since 2021). … Competing in the division for schools with smaller enrollments, Malvern is the underdog. The last two meetings were won by Garaway 28-0 in 2018 and 30-7 in 2021.  … Garaway plays in the division for schools with larger enrollments, and “crossover” games do not count in the standings. … The Pirates have been pressed by good teams the last two weeks, outlasting West Muskingum 20-13 and Youngstown Cardinal Mooney 14-13. … In a 41-7 rout of Tusky Valley, Malvern QB Jared Witherow continued to cultivate multiple threats, with Roy Simmons, Josh Untch and Jordin Detchon complementing go-to threat Rodney Smith. Drake Hutchison, Julius Gore and Simmons have emerged as a versatile trio of ball carriers. … Witherow threw for 269 yards against Tusky Valley. Smith caught five balls for 109 yards and two TDs. Hutchison ran nine times for 84 yards. … Garaway is 34-0 in the regular season since losing to Ridgewood in a 2020 regular-season finale; the Pirates have 10 wins in the last four postseasons and reached the Division VI state semis last year against Kirtland. … Dillon Soehnlen is a big-play threat who was a force last year. His 50-yard TD run helped stave off a Game 3 upset by West Muskingum. … Jason Wallick, a former Dover and Malone player, is 181-72 as Garaway’s head coach. … “It’s going to be a good measuring stick,” Malvern head coach Matt Chiurco said. “I’ve told our kids, we’ve had some really good teams these last five years. The one thing we’re really missing is that signature win. Beating Garaway down at Garaway would be that signature win and catapult us into one of top teams in Division VII.”
